Anne of Green Gables
Book by Donald Harron, adapted from the well-loved children's classic by L.M.
Montgomery, and music by Norman Campbell - Canada's longest-running musical,
rarely performed in Australia, will be brought to life on the EUCMS stage in
May, 2011.
In the small, conservative town of Avonlea, where everyone is interested in
everyone else's business, ageing brother and sister Matthew and Marilla
Cuthbert decide to adopt a boy to help with the farm. A mix-up brings
Anne Shirley to them instead – a talkative girl with an imagination that has
seen her through the many hardships of her young life. Matthew and
Marilla's slow, quiet lives will be irrevocably changed by the spirited,
creative Anne – while they, and the whole town, will provide her with her first
chance for a real family and community.
The sometimes bittersweet delights of growing up, summer holidays, your first
taste of ice cream, loving and losing people, and making a place for yourself
in the lives of others – welcome to Avonlea at the start of the 20th century.
Rehearsals will take place on
Tuesday and Friday nights from Feb, 2011.
ALL cast and crew of EUCMS' productions are volunteers. Proceeds are donated to various
local and overseaes charities.
